Affiliate disclosure: links to brands are affiliate links. If you buy through one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It does not change the calculator results or the order brands appear in. How this works.

Per kg and per day prices are not directly comparable: subscription brands quote per dog and the portion size they pick differs by brand. For a like for like figure, run your dog through the calculator and compare the monthly kg against each brand's own quote.

How to choose

  1. 01

Start with price per kg, not per pack

Blocks and tubs come in different weights. Divide the price by the kilos and compare a 20 kg dog at 500 g a day: about 15 kg a month.

  2. 02

    Decide: shop freezer or doorstep

Natures Menu, Nutriment and Durham are in stockists. Bella + Duke and Paleo Ridge deliver portioned, so you pay more per kg for less effort.

  3. 03

    Check it says complete

A complete raw food is balanced to FEDIAF guidelines so you feed the total only. Minces labelled 80/10/10 without the word complete need organ added.

  • Small dog, want it easy: a subscription (Bella + Duke) costs £10 to £20 more a month than shop raw for a dog under 10 kg, and saves the freezer trips.
  • Large dog, watching cost: Durham Animal Feeds or Nutriment 1.4 kg tubs from a local stockist. See the budget guide.
  • No local stockist: Natures Menu is in Pets at Home nationwide. Nutriment and Paleo Ridge deliver direct.
  • No freezer space: raw is not practical. Pure Pet Food is dehydrated and shelf stable, which is why it appears here.
  • PMR feeder: Durham Animal Feeds 80/10/10 completes have no vegetables. The others are BARF style. See BARF vs PMR.

What "complete" means

A complete pet food meets the FEDIAF nutritional guidelines for the life stage on the label with no additions, so you feed the total the calculator gives and nothing else. All the raw brands above sell complete recipes. "Complementary" products, such as plain 80/10/10 minces, chunks and bones, are not balanced on their own and are meant for DIY feeders combining them. UK law requires the word complete or complementary to appear on the label.

Prices on this page are checked by hand and dated. If one is wrong or out of date, tell us and it will be corrected.

Read the label for

  • The word "complete" on the pack
  • A feeding guide in percent of body weight
  • A UK approval or registration number on the pack
  • "80/10/10" with no mention of complete
  • "Complementary" or "for intermittent feeding"

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Prices move. If you spot one that is out of date, tell us and we will re-check it.

What is the best raw dog food in the UK?

There is no single best. For lowest price per kg it is Durham Animal Feeds at £4.38, then Nutriment at £4.49 in the 1.4 kg tub. For widest availability it is Natures Menu, stocked in Pets at Home. For delivered, portioned raw it is Bella + Duke at about £7.18 per kg. Pick on format and price for your dog's size, since all of these are complete and balanced.

Are Pure and Tuggs raw dog food?

No. Pure Pet Food is dehydrated: dried ingredients you rehydrate with water. Tuggs is fresh food, gently cooked and frozen. Both are complete and both are delivered on subscription, which is why they are often compared with raw subscriptions, but neither is raw. They are listed here so the comparison is honest.

Is subscription raw worth it over shop bought?

Subscription raw costs about 60 percent more per kg than the cheapest shop complete. What you get is portions sized for your dog, recipe rotation, and delivery. For a dog under 10 kg the difference is £10 to £20 a month. For a 30 kg dog it can be £60 or more a month. Use the calculator's cost comparison for your own dog.

Does complete raw need anything added?

No. "Complete" means it meets FEDIAF nutritional guidelines on its own. Feed the daily amount from the calculator and nothing else is required. Many owners still add oily fish once or twice a week and the odd raw meaty bone for teeth, which is fine as long as the total stays at 2 to 3 percent of body weight.

How did you pick these brands?

They are the UK complete raw brands with the widest distribution and published prices, plus the two non-raw subscription brands most often compared against raw. We do not rank them by a score. Prices come from the brand or a named third party with the date shown. Three of the links are affiliate links, which does not affect order or inclusion.
